With the rapid growth of renewable energy installed capacity, my country is accelerating the construction of new power systems and new energy systems, in which new energy storage plays an important role. In the view of Shu Yinbiao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the new power system has put forward five basic requirements for the development of new energy storage: First, the energy storage system itself must be safe and reliable. Second, energy storage must have excellent performance in the power system. Third, energy storage must be flexible and intelligent. Fourth, it must be green and environmentally friendly. Fifth, new energy storage must actively support the power system and cope with the intermittent and volatile nature of new energy.

The development of energy storage has gone through four periods since 2000. The first is the technology verification period, the second is the demonstration application period, and the third is the early stage of commercialization. We are currently experiencing a stage from the early stage of commercialization to large-scale development. The main features are that the industry has begun to develop on a large scale, some technologies are internationally leading, the standard system is gradually improved, and a variety of business models are gradually formed. In the future, full commercialization will be gradually realized." said Chen Haisheng, director of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Among them, the new liquid flow battery has the advantages of safety and reliability, reduced construction costs, and easy expansion. In addition, the materials used in the new liquid flow battery are also more environmentally friendly.

In 2023, under the guidance of policies, new energy storage technologies will accelerate breakthroughs and iterations, new market application scenarios, new formats, and new models will continue to emerge, and new energy storage has entered a large-scale development stage. As the exclusive title sponsor of this conference, Lin Jiubiao, technical director of energy storage solutions at CATL, pointed out that at the same time, the rapid development of the industry has also brought many chaos. At the product level, there are serious homogeneity, safety discounts, capacity decay, and reduced energy efficiency. In response to the problems of capacity decay and reduced energy efficiency of energy storage products, CATL recently released a new generation of energy storage products, the Tianheng Energy Storage System, to achieve regular zero decay. Lin Jiubiao introduced that the company introduced lithium replenishment technology and lithium ion self-repair technology on the basis of 3-year zero decay technology, controlled the consumption rate of active lithium throughout the life cycle, and bionic SEI and self-assembled electrolytes to open up a green channel for lithium ions and achieve zero power decay. The company has solved the problem of high activity of buried lithium metal in the manufacture of zero decay batteries, effectively curbed thermal runaway caused by oxidation reactions, and solved supply problems at the same time, achieving large-scale, mass production and cost control.

As a typical application of energy storage systems on the user side, industrial and commercial energy storage is currently facing multiple problems. As the title sponsor of the summit forum, Huang Hao, chief operating officer of Shanghai Zhuoyang Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., pointed out. In terms of safety, the large number of industrial and commercial energy storage projects and the wide regional distribution put forward certain requirements for overall operation and maintenance. Economically, industrial and commercial energy storage is still peak-valley arbitrage, and a profit model is formed through energy time shifting, which requires the expansion of a long-term sustainable profit model. In terms of scenario application, the combination of industrial and commercial energy storage with different scenarios will have different requirements for the control basis. Huang Hao said that around the safety, economy and multi-scenario requirements of industrial and commercial energy storage, the company has developed the Z-digital series of digital products, including asset management systems, energy management and operation systems, safety management systems, zero-carbon park management systems, and virtual power plant VPP management systems, covering five major areas. Through digital and intelligent means, a variety of energy scale aggregation is formed, providing services such as resource allocation optimization and energy conservation and carbon reduction, meeting the needs of combining one-stop solutions with personalized demand customization. Huang Hao introduced that at present, the company has built virtual power plants in Zhejiang and some regions. According to the actual electricity conditions and the corresponding needs of the power grid, including the actual situation of industrial and commercial time-of-use electricity prices, the company flexibly adjusts the charging and discharging functions, and promptly participates in the local virtual power grid demand-side response to obtain additional benefits.

In addition, as competition in the domestic energy storage industry intensifies, driven by overseas market demand, more and more companies are accelerating their pace of "going global". Rob van der Gulik, deputy secretary of the European Energy Storage Industry Association, delivered a keynote speech on "The Current Situation and Analysis of the European Energy Storage Industry". Around the theme of "Energy Transformation and Reform under the Background of Dual Carbon, Promoting High-quality Development of Energy Storage", representatives from State Grid Jiangsu Integrated Energy, Shanghai Electric Power Design Institute, Shenghong Kinetic Energy, China Science and Technology Haiao, Phoenix, Envision Energy, NARI Relay Protection, and China Energy Construction Jiangsu Institute held a roundtable dialogue.
